THE MONKEY'S FIST

Illustrated by Joshua Telford

For readers aged 11-15, a Tale of the Working Poor in a place like New York City which may seem an almost alien world. TV? The Sheridans are lucky to have a radio that works!. On The Waterfront for Younger Readers. From an on-line synopsis: "Tim Sheridan liked his family's house, even if it was not like other houses. Living on a barge tied up to the Jersey shore of the Hudson River gave a boy endless pleasure. With his dog Susie, he would jump into his father's skiff and together they would spend exciting hours salvaging floating treasure on the river. An old pilothouse from some long-forgotten tugboat provided a good storage place and someday Tim hoped this would be a clubhouse -- if ever some boys of his age came around. Then, without warning, a mysterious danger threatened -- from the moment that the strange man appeared in the clubhouse, things happened. This unusual story of smugglers and pirates on the river, of freighter fires and of courage and daring is a fast-paced thriller of life on the waterfront today [1953]."

Published by Houghton Mifflin, Cambridge & Boston, in 1953. This is a FIRST EDITION as the title page year date matches the copyright date. There is no DJ. This is a READ-SEVERAL-TIMES copy which has had the front free page removed (likely a dedication as this is not an ex-library book), has an ink-splotch on the front board (see picture) and shows general reading wear on the spine top & bottom edges, with page edge handling also. Overall, it grades at least as GOOD high.
